Attack on BGMEA employees

Seven including six trade union leaders land in jail

A Dhaka court sent on Sunday seven people including six leaders of Garment Workers' Trade Union Centre (GETUC) to jail in connection with a case filed over attacking officials of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on January 31, reports UNB.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mizanur Rahman passed the order after rejecting their bail appeals.

Meanwhile, the court granted bail to another accused Montu Ghosh considering his age.

The seven accused are Joly Talukdar, GETUC general secretary, AK Mintu, organising secretary, Monjur Moin, secretary of international affairs, Sajedur Rahman Shamim, central committee member of Bangladesher Communist Party (CPB), Jalal Hawladar, general secretary of GETUC Gazipur unit, Lutfar Rahman, president of Ashulia unit and central committee member Md Shahjahan.

BGMEA Additional Secretary Md Rafikul Islam filed the case with Ramna thana against the accused on February 01.

Later on February 4, the accused leaders secured interim bail from the High Court for eight weeks, which concluded on Sunday.

According to the case statement, the trade union leaders along with their supporters attacked the employees of BGMEA in front of BGMEA building at Hatirjheel on January 31 during a protest.
