Shahjahan Siraj, his wife, son sued for tax evasion

Former minister and BNP leader Shahjahan Siraj, his wife Rabeya Siraj and son Rajib Siraj were sued for tax evasion Monday, as part of the government's ongoing anti-corruption drive, reports UNB.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) filed separate cases against them with the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s court on charge of tax evasion, sources said.
Judge Azizul Huq issued warrants of arrest against the alleged tax evaders. Earlier on Thursday, the court issued arrest warrant against Farzana Khan, wife of Rajib Siraj, on a similar charge.
The NBR accused Shahjahan Siraj and his wife and son of submitting false income statement and of concealing income under sections 165 and 166 of the Income Tax Ordinance 1984.
Shahjahan Siraj allegedly evaded tax of Tk 0.247 million (2.47 lakh) by concealing income of Tk 0.919 million while his wife evaded tax of Tk 0.29 million concealing Tk 1.478 million and his son evaded tax of Tk 2.265 million by concealing income of Tk 9.73 million.
