Shama off to US for UN humanitarian meeting

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Tuesday left Dhaka for USA to attend the Humanitarian Affairs Segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) , report agencies.
The three-day event will be held from June 17 to 19 and is expected to bring together policymakers, diplomats, humanitarian actors and development partners to discuss global humanitarian challenges and response strategies.
During her visit, the state minister is expected to participate in discussions and engagements on issues related to humanitarian affairs and international cooperation.
This year’s Humanitarian Affairs Segment will be chaired by Héctor Gómez Hernández, Vice-President of ECOSOC and Permanent Representative of Spain to the United Nations.
She is scheduled to return on June 20.
