The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) has detained Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, the chairman of the Trinamool BNP, in a raid at his home in the capital, report agencies.
He was apprehended from his Banani DOHS residence on Thursday and taken to the DB offices, according to Joint Commissioner Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan of the Detective Branch.
However, the authorities did not immediately disclose the grounds for his detention or whether he will be formally charged.
Earlier in the day, a DB team conducted a raid at his residence.
On Wednesday, law enforcement at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka stopped Shamsher and his wife from traveling to Thailand.
