Shibir calls 48-hr hartal in Rajshahi div from Sunday

Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, called a 48-hour hartal in eight districts of Rajshahi division from tomorrow (Sunday) protesting what they said the killing of a leader of its Rajshahi University (RU) unit by police on Friday, reports UNB.

Rajshahi unit Shibir leaders took the decision after an emergency meeting on the day, said a press release.

RU unit president of Shibir Asharaful Alam Imon, its Rajshahi city unit president Dr Anwarul Islam and Bogra city unit president Sohel, among others, were present at the meeting.

The hartal will begin at 6 am Sunday and end at 6 am Tuesday. Shahbuddin, information affairs secretary of Shibir, RU unit, was killed and two other leaders sustained bullet wounds in a 'shootout' with police at Katakhali in the city early Friday.

Another report adds: RU unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has called an indefinite strike on the campus from today (Saturday), protesting the arrest of its general secretary Kamrul Hasan.
