SATKHIRA, Jan 18 (UNB): An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed in a clash at Padmashakra village under Sadar Upazila Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Shibir activist Chhoton (16), a Dhakil (Class-X) student of a local madrasa and son of Shahor Ali of the village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Satkhira Sadar Enamul Haque said a team of joint forces, comprising members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police and Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB), conducted a regular drive at the village at around 7:30 am to arrest accused in different cases.

At one stage, local activists of Shibir put up barricade on a road by placing logs and started hurling brickbats and crude bombs at the joint force members triggering a fierce clash.

The joint force members fired shots at the unruly Shibir activists to bring the situation under control, leaving Chhoton bullet-wounded.

Critically injured, Chhoton was rushed to the district hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
