Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has submitted nomination paper to contest the by-polls in the Rangpur-6 constituency vacated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports bdnews24.com.
The Awami League candidate submitted the nomination to the Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer and assistant returning officer Sunday.
Chaudhury sought the vote of the residents of Pirganj.
"The Prime Minister and her son love Pirganj. If I am elected an MP from Pirganj I will love the Pirganj residents as much as they love," she said addressing the residents.
She vowed to continue development activities in Pirganj.
Chaudhury is the only candidate who submitted nomination to contest the by-polls scheduled for Feb 20.
Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahmed said Monday was the last date for submitting nominations.
If any other candidate did not submit nomination paper by this time, Chaudhury would be declared elected, he said.
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina had vacated the seat, keeping the Gopalganj seat after she won both the seats in the Jan 5 polls.
