Shishu park to be constructed after Saifur's name in Sylhet

SYLHET, Aug 11 (UNB): A shishu park will be constructed after the name of former Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman at Alampur in Dakkhin Surma Upazila at a cost of Tk 170 million (17 crore).
Sylhet City Corporation has decided to construct the park on 3.77 acres of land on the bank of Surma river beside the Sylhet-Zakiganj road.
The previous four-party alliance government took the project at a cost of Tk 170m (17 crore) and also acquired land in last October involving Tk 13.7m (1.37 crore) for the project.
An amount of Tk 127.2m (12.72 crore) has been allocated for the park in the budget of the current fiscal year.
The City Corporation has already given the work order after inviting tender to start the work under the project.
Earth filling work under the project will be started within a week to protect the land from the flood costing Tk 9.5m (95 lakh). The boundary wall of the park will also be constructed at a cost of Tk 13.4m (1.34 crore).
Acting Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation M Azam Khan said an experienced architect would design the park where a number of rides will be set up for the children.
It will be an exceptional park on the bank of Surma, within 2/3kms from the central part of the city, he added.
