FARIDPUR, Aug 1 (UNB): The police arrested six suspected militants of a new Islamist outfit from Chanmari area of the district town Friday night and Saturday morning.
The arrested persons were identified as M Rezaul Karim, M Shamsuddin, M Sohel, M Yaad Ali, M Osman and M Murad Hossain.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Brach (DB) of police raided the house of Jalal Mollah at about 11:30pm Friday and arrested Rezaul and Shamsuddin. Later, they were handed over to Sadar Thana police.
During interrogation, the arrested suspects told the law-enforcers that they were members of "Kalema Jamaat", headed by Prof Abdul Majid of Char Fashion in Bhola, a charge-sheeted accused of the August 17, 2005 serial-bombing case.
Shamsuddin said they joined the new Islamist outfit inspired by its district chief Mehedi Hasan. They invite people, especially teenage boys and girls, to follow Islamic ideals.
