DRAFT JULY CHARTER

Six political parties did not give opinions

FE REPORT | August 23, 2025 00:00:00

Six political parties did not give their opinions on the draft July National Charter 2025 sent by the National Consensus Commission (NCC) as the deadline for providing official response ended on Friday.

Earlier, the commission extended the deadline by two days to August 22 following requests from five political parties.

The political parties that did not yet express their opinions are: Nagorik Oikya, Islamic Andolan Bangladesh, Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP), Rastro Songskar Andolon, Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh, and Islami Oikya Jote, according to the commission.

However, major political parties, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and National Citizen Party (NCP) among 24 others, gave their opinions.

After receiving the responses from experts, the commission will meet the parties again to come up with the final approval.

The commission has engaged in discussions with experts to determine how to set legal bindings to implement the national charter amid calls for its immediate incorporation into the constitution. Political disagreements have also emerged over providing a legal framework for the charter.
