Six Thakurgaon cops closed over toll

THAKURGOAN, Sept 18 (UNB): Six policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, of Pirganj Police Station were closed to the District Police Lines on Friday over extortion charges.  

The ASI was identified as Nur Alam.

Police super of Thakurgoan Farhat Ahmed said locals caught the policemen while they were taking toll from a motorcycle at Gogarhat on Pirganj-Ranishankail road in Ranishankail.

The angry mob assaulted them before informing the police station.

On information, officers-in-charge of Ranishankail and Pirganj Police Stations Shukumar Mohanta and KM Shawkat Ali respectively rushed in and rescued them.

Abul Kalam Azad, assistant police super (circle), has been assigned to investigate the incident, added the police super.
