The 50th birthday of Sheikh Russell, youngest son of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed Saturday in a befitting manner across the country, said a press release.
On this day in 1964, Sheikh Russell, the youngest of the three brothers of the Awami League (AL) President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.
Ruling AL, its associate bodies and different socio-cultural organisations chalked out elaborate programmes, including Milad, Doa Mahfil, rally, discussions, cutting cake and distribution of food.

In observance of the 50th birthday of slain Sheikh Russell, Awami Swechchasebak League (ASL) organised a discussion in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban where AL leader Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif was the chief guest.
Chaired by ASL senior vice-president Nirmol Guh, the discussion was addressed, among others, by ASL general secretary Pankaj Debnath and vice-president Motiur Rahman Moti.
Dhaka City Awami League organised a day-long Quran Khwani and a Milad and Doa Mahfil after Asr prayers at its office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
