MADARIPUR, June 19 (UNB): The operation of small launches will remain suspended during monsoon to avoid accidents, said Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan on Friday.
He said this while talking to reporters after inspecting the repair work on the town protection embankment at Madaripur Launch Ghat in the morning.
The minister said no launch will be allowed to carry passengers beyond their capacity during the upcoming Eid. "There'll be a strict vigilance so that no launch can carry additional passengers during this Eid," he added.
He also revealed that the operation of 11 small launches has so far been suspended after the capsize of Pinak-6.
Deputy Commissioner of Madaripur GSM Jafarullah, Police Super Mohammad Sarwar Hossain and Water Development Board Executive Engineer M Moniruzzaman were present.
