Speaker returns home after attending IPU meet

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Friday returned home after attending the 148th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Geneva of Switzerland from March 23-27, reports BSS.

On the first day of the IPU Assembly, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presided over a meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group at the International Conference Center in Geneva.

She also participated in a bilateral meeting on the invitation of IPU's Secretary General Martin Chungong during this time and discussed various bilateral issues including IPU conference held in Bangladesh and World Speakers' Summit.

Dr Shirin Sharmin also participated in the 213rd session of the IPU governing council along with parliamentary representatives group and took part in the discussion titled "Parliamentary Diplomacy : Building Bridges for Peace and Understanding".

In addition, the Speaker delivered address as a panel speaker at the Protection of Minority Rights event.
