Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said on Sunday development in any country of the world will be ensured in all sectors if women's political leadership could be established, reports UNB.
She made the remark while addressing the 13th meeting of Commonwealth Gender Plan of Action Monitoring Group (CGPMG) as the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of Common
wealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in New York, according to a message received on Sunday.
"If we want to ensure balanced development, we should establish free leadership of women in society and politics," Dr Shirin said.
She said although many commonwealth countries have already achieved marked progress in many development indexes, gender equity-based development is yet to be ensured due to poverty, maternal mortality and unequal distribution of resources.
Dr Shirin said the CPA is working to ensure a gender-based equity, cut poverty and minimise maternal mortality rate in the commonwealth countries.
