NEWYORK, July 14 (BSS): Speakers at a seminar here Friday praised the caretaker government for giving institutional shape to important bodies of the republic keeping good governance in view.
Bangladesh Journalists' and Writers' Association of America organised the seminar, chaired by retired civil servant Shaukat Ali.
Vice President of the City University of New York Gerald Posman, Khursad Alam, Attorney Soma Sayeed, former additional secretary Mahboob Talukder, Abul Kashem and Abu Sayeed Sagar, among others, spoke while the keynote paper was presented by journalist Muhammad Jahangir.
The nation, said Ali, needs to work in unison to achieve the country's development potentials.
He praised the steps taken by the present government to strengthen the important bodies of the country.
He also thanked the defence forces for coming forward in the bad days of the nation.
Holding the "unhealthy politics of the major political parties" of the country as responsible for causing much loss, Jahangir said the caretaker government took steps to fulfil the peoples' desire by institutionalising the important bodies like the Election Commission (EC), the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Chief Coordinator of "Jago Bangladesh" Khorshed Alam said a peaceful revolution took place on January 11 with support from the patriotic armed forces of the country.
Now, he said, it was necessary to step up the ongoing action against corruption.
