CHITTAGONG, Sept 29 (bdnews24.com): Senior BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury has claimed that former foreign minister in the post-independence government Dr Kamal Hossain should be the first one to be tried by the International Crimes Tribunal for defying the Constitution.
Speaking to journalists at his residence Tuesday, Mr Chowdhury, who is under investigation over war crimes charges, said, "Dr Kamal, being a lawmaker himself, was the first to violate the first amendment to the constitution's article 47."
"He went to Delhi only six weeks after the amendment of the Constitution and signed a treaty with Pakistan to send back 195 Pakistani military members."
"At the same time, the 195 members of the Pakistani forces and those who were servants of the Yahia government, meaning those who were paid officials, will have to be tried." He also mentioned that the particular amendment was made in 1973 by the first Awami League (AL) government.
Emphasising the necessity of a transparent trial, he added, "First, bring back the 195 Pakistani people. Then judge those who worked for Yahia for nine months in 1971. Then if you get any proper charges against us, then catch us. We are in the country."
