Staging drama at RU with character on Prophet (SM) protested

RAJSHAHI, Nov 06: Various socio-cultural organisations as well as teachers and students' organisations demonstrated on the campus of Rajshahi University recently protesting against performing a character on Hazrat Muhammd (SM), the Great Prophet of Islam, in a drama staged by a drama group at the RU on November 3.
The drama group Dhumketu Nattyo Sangsad (DNS) staged the drama Mandar having a character on the Great Prophet.
Rightist teachers met the RU vice chancellor and demanded punishment to artistes of the drama. Sachetan Chhatra Somaj (SCS) staged a demonstration.
A speaker at the demonstration said, "A character cannot be named after the Great Prophet of Islam."
Bikolpo Sahittyo Sangskritic Sangstha (BSSS) also staged a rally and demanded exemplary punishment to writer, producer and director of the drama.
Sources said artistes of the Udichi Nattyo Gosthi's RU unit staged the controversial drama under the banner of Dhumteku Nattyo Sangsad on November 03 at Siraji Bhaban Chottor marking the jail killing day and demanding re-installation of the sculpture of Baul Lalon at the Zia International Airport in Dhaka.
