CHATTOGRAM, Jan 06 (BSS): City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin called upon journalists to stand beside the Awami League-led government for the continuity of economic growth and progress of the country.
"The government has taken various programmes to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2041," he said.
The city mayor said this while delivering speech at a reception arranged by Chattogram Journalists Housing Co-operative Society (CJHCS) at Engineer Khaled Auditorium of Chattogram Press Club this afternoon.
CJHCS accorded reception to the city mayor and president of Nasirabad Housing Society for achieving an award as a successful cooperative organiser.
Outlining the importance of media to strengthen democracy, Nasir said the present government does not interfere in media and thus, the media in the country are carrying out their duty independently.
He also sought cooperation of journalists for highlighting the ongoing development activities of the city corporation.
CJHCS president Swpan Mollick presided over the programme addressed, among others, by Ali Abbas, former president of CPC, Samir Kanti Barua, vice President of CJHCS, Mohammad Shahjahan, general secretary of Nasirabad Housing Society, Hasan Ferdouse, general secretary of CJHCS, and Anjon Kumar Sen, journalist leader.
