BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the government to step down by accepting the justified demands of the students to give people relief from the current violent situation, reports UNB.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a press conference at the party Chairperson's Gulshan office in the capital on Sunday

He also urged the government to stop its 'evil' efforts to put the blame onto BNP and the opposition parties for the violence by using the media.

Fakhrul also said the media outlets are running the 'made up' statements of some arrested leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

"The government is making evil efforts to shift its fault onto other. Shun all these foul plays and create a proper academic atmosphere immediately by accepting the just demands of students. Step down immediately by accepting the demand that have already made by the people to ease the situation for them," he said.

Fakhrul also called upon the country's people to support the justified movement of the students based on national unity.

The BNP leader also urged the ruling party to create a scope for establishing a government of the people through a neutral election.

About the apex court verdict on quota system, Fakhrul said the Supreme Court gave the government directives, scrapping the High Court order on reinstatement of quota as pert the article 104 of the Constitution to resolve problem amid the bloodsheds.

He said BNP and noted citizens had repeatedly called upon the government to resolve the problem over quota through discussions with the students, but the government did not pay heed to it.

"Had the government resolved this problem through the court at the beginning, so many innocent students wouldn't have been killed and the bloodletting situation wouldn't have been created," he added.
