Shushasoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan), a rights body, urged Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Saturday to engage in dialogue to break the present political standoff over a fresh national election, reports UNB.
"The initiative has to come first from the Prime Minister in this regard as she runs the country," said Sujan secretary Badiul Alam Majumder at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU).
Citing past experiences, he said there must be a fruitful dialogue.
"We don't want to see any game over the dialogue."
If the political leaders fail to resolve the prevailing political stalemate, Majumder said, the President has to take the initiative in the interest of the country.
About election, he said it is important to arrange a free, fair, impartial and competitive election at the quickest possible time for the 'stability' of the country.
Expressing concern over the current political movement, the Sujan secretary said the country might brace for a violent situation in the future if the government does not arrange a fresh election.
Majumder urged all the political parties to come forward for a solution to some issues to avoid the present violent scenario and future uncertainty.
Former teacher of Chittagong University Dr Tofail Ahmed was also present at the press conference.
