FENI, June 21 (BSS): Sujan, a non-government organisation (NGO) working for good governance, has stressed the need for strengthening the ongoing reforms in the electoral system for holding free, fair and credible elections in the country.
The current electoral reforms would be successful if the terrorists, black money holders, corrupt and convicted persons, retired bureaucrats in recent time and bank defaulters could be kept outside the election process, it observed.
The opinion was made at a discussion organised by the NGO at Doctors Club here today.
President of the club's Feni unit Mahbub Altamash presided over the discussion.
The speakers urged the authorities concerned to take stringent measures to ensure that the bank defaulters could not contest the elections taking advantage of any loopholes in the law.
They also stressed the need for strengthening the Election Commission (EC) so that it could act independently.
