Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta urged on Friday BNP to take part in the upcoming elections of three city corporations--Dhaka North, Dhaka South and Chittagong, reports UNB.
"It had been BNP's demand that the elections be held to city corporations. They participated in every city corporation polls under the present Election Commission (EC) in the past and won those. So, there's no reason of boycotting the elections this time. Come and take part in the election," he said.
Suranjit, an AL Advisory Council member, was addressing a discussion on 'current political situation', organised by Nouka Samarthak Gosthi, a platform of AL supporters, at the Institute of Diploma Engineers in the city.
The ruling party leader expressed the hope that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia would announce her decision to join the city corporation elections.
He urged the ministry of home and the law enforcement agencies to work with sincerity and engage their all-out efforts to trace 'missing' BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed and return him to his family members.
