Awami League (AL) Advisory Council member and former Railway Minister Suranjit Sengupta, MP, asked Saturday BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to refrain from movement and instead concentrate on reorganising her party, reports BSS.
"You needn't have to wage a movement against the present government for polls. The election to Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) would be held within two or three months. So, I request you to reorganise your party instead of launching a movement," he said pointing at BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Suranjit Sengupta, a senior parliamentarian of the ruling AL, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "Our Responsibilities in Building Bangabandhu's Golden Bangla" organised by Awami Swadhinata League at the Bir Uttam Khawaza Nizamuddin auditorium at Segunbagicha in the city with its president Prof Md Rafique Ullah in the chair.
In reply to the recent remarks of some BNP leaders on DCC polls, Mr Sengupta said: "Its both-way faults of the government if it announces polls or not. If it does not announce polls, you demand polls and if it announces polls then you come up with remarks that polls have been announced to foil your movement. Then what's the way we have to choose?"
Terming the remarks of son of Kader Mollah, who was handed down with capital punishment by the war crimes tribunal for committing crimes against humanity in 1971, on the review of the verdict as tantamount to contempt of court, Mr Sengupta said: "I would like to request Attorney General and the Law Ministry to take action against Kader Mollah's son. There must be any provocation anywhere behind this. Otherwise, he (Kader Mollah's son) would not dare to pass such remarks."
