Former minister and Awami League (AL) Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta said in the city Friday that normalcy would be restored within a week as a total war has been launched against terrorism in the country, reports BSS.
"The subversive activities have already declined. The country will return to normalcy within a week as we are now in a total war against anarchy and subversive activities being run in the name of movement," he said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest.
Bangabandhu Academy organised the discussion at the Institution of Diploma Engineers with its Organising Secretary Sazzad Hossain in the chair. Among others, Joint General Secretary of Dhaka City AL Hazi Md Selim spoke on the occasion.
Holding responsible the BNP-Jamaat alliance for the recent violence, he said, "Our stance is now clear. The nation is now on one side while the criminals are on the other side. Democracy means the spirit of Liberation War and there is no scope to compromise in case of democracy and the Constitution."
"The characteristic of BNP has changed as it has now turned into a terrorist group in guise of a political party," he opined.
Terming Khaleda Zia 'leader of terrorists' the senior AL leader said, "She (Khaleda Zia) is now not a Jatiyatabadi leader...she became leader of terrorists and she is currently acting as Mollah Omar (a Taliban militant leader)."
He also said, "The entire world now takes stand in favour of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while Khaleda Zia became an odd person out due to her party's terrorist activities. Khaleda Zia will have to face the music for masterminding the killings of innocent people in the name of movement."
Another report adds from Chittagong:  Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali commented on Friday that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia should be sued in 'thousands of cases' for fomenting sabotage activities across the country in the name of political programme.
He said Khaleda Zia should take the liabilities of disruption of production in mills and factories and financial losses to the farmers who cannot sell their produces because of the countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20 party alliance.
The minister said this while talking to journalists after a seminar organised by a private school at the city's LGED Hall this noon.
Earlier, the minister attracted children by singing songs who were present in a two-day seminar and workshop organised by Frobel Play School.
Dr Gitt Oberoy of India, director of Nottingham University, Malaysia Dr Alephia Noman and principal of Frobel Play School Huara Tahsin, among others, spoke on the occasion.
