An Awami League Advisory Council member urged on Friday BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to return to the democratic politics severing ties with Jamaat-e-Islami, reports BSS.
"Please decide, whether you (Khaleda) will do politics with fanatic, militant outfits or in a democratic way . . . And if you want democratic politics, you better cut off your relations with Jamaat," he said while speaking at a discussion organised by Bangladesh Awami Tarun League on 'Contemporary Political Perspectives' at the city's Engineers' Institution auditorium.
Suranjit said it now appears that Khaleda in recent years put in her efforts to explore ways to evade polls fearing setbacks as Awami League is continuing development endeavors under party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership.
"The country in the meantime reached the status of a lower middle-income country under her farsighted and charismatic leadership being the efficient daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," he said.
Suranjit said her relentless efforts for the development of the country also earned the international appreciation," he added.
Among others, Narayn Debnath and Mahbubul Alam and Harun Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion.
