Awami League Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta, MP, Monday called upon BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to return to democratic politics shunning the path of violent politics, reports BSS.

"Begum Zia's statement at the Kanchpur public rally in Narayanganj district proved that she could not come out of the politics of violence," he said.

Suranjit Sengupta, a senior parliamentarian of the ruling Awami League, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.

Awami Tarun League organised the discussion on current politics at the Institution of Diploma Engineers at Kakrail in the capital marking the Victory Day with its president Musleh Uddin Masud in the chair.

Dhaka City Awami League (AL) vice-president Faezuddin Miah, Samyabadi Dal central leader Haroon Chowdhury, adviser of the organisation Md Manir Hossain and Bangabandhu Academy secretary general Humayun Kabir Mizi were the discussants, among others.

Criticising Begum Zia's remarks on the Prime Minister's ICT (Information and Communication Technology) adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Suranjit Sengupta said, "Prime Minister's ICT adviser and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's grandson Sajeeb Wazed Joy is the leader of new generation of Awami League. The nation expects that an educated, polite and civilised leader of his stature will lead the new generation."

Pointing at Begum Zia, Suranjit Sengupta said, "You have to either prove in media your remarks about the salary that Sajeeb Wazed Joy enjoys or you have to withdraw your statement."
