Surging attacks on opponents will lead to dire consequences

Says BNP

FE REPORT | February 15, 2024 00:00:00

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said on Wednesday that the country is moving towards a dire consequence due to escalating attacks on the opponents by the ruling party men.

Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the comment while distributing leaflets and conducting a mass contact in Gulshan area of the capital.

The leaflets contained BNP's demands for cancelation of the national election held on January 7, 2024, resignation of the Awami League government and holding afresh a free and fair national election under a neutral caretaker administration.

"Social anarchy across the country has reached an extreme level. A local Chhatra League leader in Khustia district chopped to death a youth and cut the body into ten pieces that he (killer) himself also admitted openly. Now they (ruling Awami League men) are not only killing BNP followers but also have been engaged in intraparty conflict and are killing each other for securing share of looted money. So, considering this scenario, the country is moving towards a grave situation," he said.

"They (AL men) thought that they have become zaminder after the national election held on January 7, 2024. Our ongoing struggle will continue against these zaminder (land lords) because we (BNP) have to give back people's voting rights," he continued.

"The ongoing movement that the BNP and other opposition parties are carrying out against the government is not just for getting back power rather it is a struggle to restore democracy in the country and also give back people's voting rights. Our ongoing anti-government movement will continue until we win victory," he went on.

Leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies, led by Rizvi, distributed leaflets under the banner ' Save the Country, Save the People' from Gulshan II to Gulshan I.
