NATORE, Nov 20 (BSS): A local unit activist of Swechhasebak League (SL) was stabbed to death in Bilshalia area under Lalpur Upazila of the district last night.
Quoting locals police said the victim was identified as Ashraf Ali, 36, a resident of the same area.
Abdul Hai Talukder, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalpur Police Station, said the locals found the body in a paddy field this morning and informed the police.
Quoting the preliminary investigation report he said the deceased was a local level activist of SL. He had a quarrel with some of his neighbours over a piece of disputed land. He might have been killed over the previous enmity, OC Abdul Hai added.
He said Ashraf was called out from his home around 8:30pm yesterday by someone and his body was found in the paddy field this morning. His hands and legs were broken, while his head bore several marks of injuries inflicted by sharp weapons.
OC Hai said the matter is being investigated to unearth the genuine clue behind the murder and to bring the killers to book as early as possible.
Police sent the body to Natore Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
