Sylhet Mayor Ariful Haque lands in jail

Police took Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury to jail Tuesday after a district court had rejected his bail petition in the former finance minister SAMS Kibria murder case. — Focus Bangla Photo.

HABIGANJ, Dec 30 (UNB) : A court here on Tuesday sent Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor and BNP central leader Ariful Haque Chowdhury, rejecting his bail prayers in the former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Rokeya Akhter passed the order when mayor Ariful surrendered before her court around 10am seeking bail.  Earlier on December 21, Senior Judicial Magistrate Rashid Ahmed Milon, Judge of the Habiganj Cognizance Court-2, accepted the supplementary chargesheet filed against 35 people by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police in connection with the killing of five people, including Shah AMS Kibria.
