Symbols allocation adds new dimension to electioneering

A new dimension has been added to electioneering after allocation of symbols among the contestants in the polls to Dhaka South, Dhaka North and Chittagong City Corporation polls, reports BSS.

Campaigning for mayoral and councillor candidates in the polls to the three bustling cities got momentum in all the city localities from Friday afternoon as sporadic processions had been brought out and loud speakers used seeking votes for the contestants.

The contestants in the polls have been moving from door to door approaching the voters assuring them of improvement of their life style and civic amenities transforming the three major cities of the country into green and developed habitats if they are chosen in the polls slated for April 28.

On Saturday, Sayeed Khokon, the ruling Awami League-supported mayoral candidate in Dhaka South City Corporation, along with councillor candidates and party leaders and workers started campaigning with his allocated symbol "Hilsha Fish" in Dhupkhola area under Sutrapur police station.

"The long standing water-logging problem of Dhupkhola area would be resolved and community centres would be erected in all the wards if I get your mandate in the polls," Sayeed Khokon assured his voters.

In the afternoon, Sayeed Khokon along with councillor candidates of Dhaka South City Corporation took part at an electioneering view exchange meeting with a cross section of people at the auditorium of Institution of Engineers.

On behalf of BNP-led 20-party combine-supported mayoral candidate Mirza Abbas, his wife Afroza Abbas approached the voters at Sengunbagicha, National Press Club and Topkhana Road areas on Saturday. BNP vice-chairman Selima Rahman and other leaders accompanied her.

With an assurance to his voters to convert a clean, green and enlightened city equipped with full of humanity, Awami League-backed mayoral candidate in Dhaka North City Corporation Annisul Huq presented his election manifesto at Khilkhet Lotus Kamal Tower on Saturday noon.
