Tajul appeals to lift his case against Hasina

December 24, 2008 00:00:00

Kazi Tajul Islam Farook, chairman of Westmont Power (Bangladesh) Ltd, Tuesday petitioned with Tejgaon police station for withdrawing the extortion case he filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina during the caretaker government-launched anti-graft purge, reports UNB.
Amid the latest change of wind on the political front, he took the cue from another business tycoon, Azam J Chowdhury, who also backtracked on his case that had landed the former premier in prison.
On April 9 last year, the Westmont boss filed the Tk 30 million (3-crore) extortion case against the Awami League chief under non-bailable section of the penal code. Tajul complained of extortion and abuse of power by Hasina in 1998 when she was prime minister.
The case is now under investigation stage.
