Take stern action against BNP-Jamaat activities

September 26, 2014 00:00:00

Publicity and Publication Affairs secretary of the ruling Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud Thursday said the government should take stern action against any acts of violence let loose by BNP-Jamaat in the name of movement to block the development activities, reports BSS.

"BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia should be given exemplary punishment as she instructed her followers to carry out acts of destruction across the country in the last days of 2013. So that none could dare to carry out acts of destruction in the name of movement in future," he said.

Dr Hasan said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city. Bangabandhu Academy organised the discussion on current politics at the Bir Uttam Khwaza Nizamuddin auditorium at Segunbagicha in the capital with its adviser Haji Mohammad Selim, MP, in the chair.

Dhaka City Awami League (AL) vice-president Faezuddin Miah, Samyabadi Dal central leader Haroon Chowdhury, former convener of Dhaka City (South) Awami Juba League Minhaz Uddin Mintu, assistant secretary of AL sub-committee Barrister Zakir Hossain and Bangabandhu Academy secretary general Humayun Kabir Mizi were the discussants, among others.

Dr Hasan alleged that BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, in connivance with alien forces, has again been hatching conspiracy in the name of movement to save the war criminals and thwart the development activities.

He called upon all those believing in the spirit of the war of liberation, including AL, to remain vigilant against their conspiracy.

The AL leader stated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as saying that stern action would be taken against anybody, whatever powerful he/she might be, responsible for creating anarchy in the country.

"Remain united under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to give a proper lesson to BNP-Jamaat so that they could not dare to cook any plot in future," he urged the people saying that split in the BNP-led 20-party combine has already started as a number of its allies has, by this time, announced their desertion from the BNP -led alliance.

"Not to speak of split in the combine, breaking apart in BNP has already started. It has become crystal clear following publication of the book of Barrister Moudud Ahmed," the AL leader said adding: "Begum Khaleda Zia and her alliance have become frustrated after their failure to launch movement. Begum Zia should resign taking all responsibilities of the failure."
