Leaders of the Awami League-led 14-party combine said on Tuesday dialogue with BNP amounts to undermining the spirit of the country's Liberation War, reports UNB.
"Holding dialogue with BNP means giving them political concession despite carrying out subversive activities by it in the name of political programmes," said Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal general secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion on 'Spirit of the Liberation War and Militancy and Communalism', organised by Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal at the National Press Club in the city.
Ambia was critical of the BNP and alleged that the party does not believe in Bangladesh's independence and its existence as well.
He called upon the BNP-led alliance to take part in the upcoming elections to Dhaka South, Dhaka North and Chittagong City corporations shunning violence.
Participating in the discussion, Awami League office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap said BNP has declared a war against people. "No one in the past could assume state power by declaring a war against its own people," he added.
