Media Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister (PM) Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said Monday that initiative has to be taken to bring back Tarique Rahman to place him under trial for making derogatory remarks about the symbol of the national unity and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well as distorting the country's history, reports BSS.
"The people who are speaking against our national spirit and distorting the history staying abroad have to be brought back to the country and put them on trial," he added.
The media adviser also urged the people of the country to stop the vicious move of distorting the history, making indecent comment against Father of the Nation and spirit of the great liberation war as well as country's independence.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable at Dhaka Reporters' Unity organised by the Daily Nabachetona.
Mr Chowdhury said people of the country under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are trying to transform Bangladesh into a middle income country imbued with the spirit of liberation war.
World University Vice Chancellor Prof Abdul Mannan, Bangladesh Peshajibi Somonnoy Parishad Secretary General Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, Daily Jugantor acting Editor Saiful Alam, former Secretary of Bar Council Abdul Baten, Bangaldesh Teacher-Employee Front leader Mohammad Ali, BFUJ Joint Secretary General Saiful Islam Talukder and Treasurer Khairuzzaman Kamal, Journalist Sukumar Sarker, Ataur Rahman and Kalyan Saha, among others, spoke at the roundtable with Daily Nabachetona Chief Editor Abu Naser in the chair.
Abu Naser also presented a keynote paper on the topic of the roundtable.
Meanwhile, Publicity and Publication Secretary of Awami League (AL) Dr Hasan Mahmud said Monday that Tarique Rahman, senior vice chairman of BNP, should be brought back to the country to face trial for his derogatory remarks on historically settled issues of the country.
Staying abroad Tarique Rahman is resorting to falsehood on various historical facts to hatch conspiracy against the country, he told a discussion titled "The present context-current politics" in the Biruttam Khaja Nizamuddin auditorium at Segunbagicha in the city. Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jot organised the discussion.
Organising Secretary of AL Dhaka City Unit Shahe Alam Murad and general secretary of the Sangkritik Jot Arun Sarker Rana, among others, addressed the discussion.
