BNP senior leader Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday said their Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will soon return to Bangladesh, enabling the party to carry out half of its election campaign on that historic day, reports UNB.
"Our leader Tarique Rahman will soon return to Bangladesh. On that day, all aspects of the country's election process will be strengthened, Insha'Allah," he said while addressing a discussion.
From BNP's side, Salahuddin said they will be able to complete half of the election activities across the country on that day.
"On that day, we will be able to carry out half of our election campaign across the country, Insha'Allah. Campaigning is an integral part of the election, so half of it will be completed on that day," he said.
Salahuddin, a BNP Standing Committee member, also said Tarique's return will be one of the most unforgettable and historic events in Bangladesh's history.
He praised Tarique's leadership, saying that through his talent, dedication, hard work and leadership, he has established himself at the top of Bangladesh's political leadership.
"We have worked closely with him in anti-fascism and other movement struggles, and we have seen political maturity in him. Under his leadership, this nation will go far ahead," the BNP leader said.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Tax Lawyers' Forum arranged the discussion programme at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh.
Salahuddin said the nation must soon establish a political government through an election, specifically a constitutional parliamentary government. "Through it, the aspirations and dreams of the country's martyrs must be fulfilled. We are moving forward with this goal."
He expressed the hope that the national parliamentary election in Bangladesh would be held in the first half of February 2026, shortly before the start of Ramadan, or possibly even earlier.
"I would like to tell all those who try to create obstacles or spread confusion with misleading statements that we are already in the election atmosphere. Excitement for the election has developed across the country," the BNP leader said.
BSS adds: BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu on Saturday alleged that ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her associates have completely destroyed the country's banking sector through plunder.
"Over the last 15 years, Sheikh Hasina and her allies have engaged in boundless looting, utterly devastating the banking sector," he said.
Dudu made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion titled '15 Years of Anti-Fascist Struggle and the July Uprising', organised by Zia Parishad Agrani Bank PLC at the Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club.
Citing the Chief Adviser's promise to bring back laundered money, Dudu said, "The current government leader, Professor Mohammad Yunus, promised to bring that money back. He is still committed to that promise, and I hope he can fulfill it."
On the prospects of an elected government, the senior BNP leader said, "I personally believe that if an elected government comes to power, it will be able to bring back the money laundered abroad."
Dudu said the tradition of fraudulent elections and the collapse of the electoral system began with the 1973 election during Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's rule. He alleged that the results of that election were manipulated to declare Awami League candidates winners at the expense of opposition candidates.
Accusing Sheikh Hasina of following the same pattern and depriving people of their right to vote since 2008, Dudu said, "She must be held accountable for the genocide, bank looting, and vote rigging."
He further claimed that Hasina's actions over the past 15 years amount to a denial of Bangladesh's independence and the Liberation War. "The main issues of the Liberation War were independence and democracy, and democracy means holding fair elections. She did not allow that election to happen and stole votes. She has hollowed out the country. She must be brought back, tried, and her sentence carried out," he said.
Dudu concluded, "I believe the BNP is the only party that can save the country. For this, the party's leaders and activists must remain united and vigilant, as they have in the past."
Zia Parishad Agrani Bank PLC president Md Sujauddoula presided over the event, while general secretary Md Abdullah moderated it.
Open University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam, Zia Parishad Member Secretary Dr Emtaj Hossain, Director of Janata Bank Md Obaidul Haque, Director of Agrani Bank Mohammad Sultan Mahmud, former office secretary of Krishak Dal SK Sadi, president of "Save the Country, Save the People" movement KM Rokibul Islam Ripon, among others, were present.
