PIROJPUR, Dec 22 (UNB): A court here issued Monday a warrant for the arrest of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman in a case filed for his disparaging remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Abul Bashar Mia took cognisance of a petition filed by Pirojpur Bar Association president Advocate Khan Mohammad Alauddin in this connection and gave the order.
In the petition, it was noted that Tarique, addressing a discussion in London on December 15, termed Bangabandhu as 'Razakar' and 'Pakbandhu.
By delivering defamatory remarks against Bangabandhu, Tarique has defamed the whole nation, the petition added.
Meanwhile, another petition was filed against Tarique with the same court for instigating against the country's sovereignty in his speech on the same occasion.
The petition was filed by Pirojpur Bar Association general secretary Advocate Delowar Hossain.
In response, the court asked Sadar Police Station for filing an FIR in this connection.

The court of Judicial Magistrate, Chittagong Farhana Yasmin summoned the BNP leader after Mizanur Rahman, a leader of the Chandanaish Upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, filed the case with the court.
The court asked Tarique Rahman to appear before the court by January 1 next, court sources said.
Advocate Rony Kumar Dey, lawyer of the plaintiff Mizanur Rahman, said the court summoned Tarique Rahman in the defamation case under 'Section 500' of the penal code for his offensive speech about Bangabandhu and the liberation war of the country.
