FE REPORT

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will formally begin the party's election campaign from the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in Sylhet on January 22, party Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed told the media.

He said the campaign will start from Sylhet, known as the land of saints and pirs.

On January 22, Tarique Rahman will first visit the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in Sylhet city and then the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) in Khadimnagar.

The official launch of his election campaign will begin through these shrine visits, Salahuddin Ahmed said.

Since the formation of the BNP, the party founder Ziaur Rahman began his presidential election campaign from Sylhet, and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia also launched all her election campaigns from Sylhet since 1991.

Following that tradition, Tarique Rahman will start his campaign with shrine visits in Sylhet.

Meanwhile, Sylhet district and metropolitan units of BNP have taken extensive preparations to mark Tarique Rahman's visit.

Sylhet district BNP President Kayioum Chowdhury said on January 22, Tarique Rahman will begin his election campaign from Sylhet, the spiritual city of 360 Peers and Aulias (Muslim sufi saints). In that morning, he will visit the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in the city and then the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) in Khadimnagar, about eight kilometres away.

At 11:00 am, he will address his first election rally at the Alia Madrasa ground.

He said massive preparations are underway for the rally.

After nearly two decades, Tarique Rahman is set to visit Sylhet, and the people of Sylhet are eagerly waiting to welcome him.

This will be his first visit to Sylhet as party chairman, and local leaders see it as an emotional and historic moment.

After completing the Sylhet rally, Tarique Rahman will begin his election campaign along the Sylhet-Dhaka highway, Kayioum Chowdhury said.

He will address one rally in each constituency along the route.

Along the Sylhet-Dhaka highway, Tarique Rahman will address roadside rallies in Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj districts.
