Three BNP leaders sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Friday sent three BNP leaders including its Dhaka North city unit member secretary Aminul Huq to jail in a case lodged over snatching of police weapons.

The other two accused are- Jatiyabadi Jubo Dal Dhaka North city unit member secretary Sazzadul Miraz and Golam Kibria.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam passed the order as police produced the trio before the court after end of their eight-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep them behind the bars till the end of probe.

The three accused were arrested from a Gulshan flat on November 1.

According to the case documents, BNP men on October 29 carried out attack on police in Kakrail intersection area. They kept attacking police in Nightingale intersection, Naya Paltan and Bijoy Nagar areas on that day. The alleged unruly leaders and activists of BNP torched several motorcycles.

They beat a couple of policemen and snatched a pistol, two shotguns, a

Chinese rifle, a gas gun and ammunitions from them.

Police later filed the case with Paltan Police Station against 55 leaders and activists of BNP including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
