Miscreants exploded three crude bombs targeting the office of the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Tuesday.
Police and bystanders said some unidentified people hurled three bombs almost simultaneously very likely from the premises of the nearby Institute of Research and Education of DU at around 11:30 am.
Shahbagh Thana Sub-Inspector Akter Morshed told newsmen that bombs may have been exploded behind the VC's office to create panic among the teachers and students of the university.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) called for strike at all the educational institutions of the country including DU Tuesday protesting the arrest of Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina.
But all classes and examinations at all the departments and institutes of the university were held as usual paying no heed to the strike call.
Law enforcing agencies said those who called the strike may have been responsible for the incident because their call for strike was ignored.
However, no one was identified or arrested in this connection although a large number of police forces were deployed close to where the incident took place.
DU Proctor AK Feroz Ahmed said the university authorities have asked the law enforcing agencies to look into the matter and filed a general diary (GD) with Shahbagh Police Station.
Terming the explosions as isolated incidents, VC SMA Faiz said nobody should create any disturbance by which the congenial education atmosphere is hampered, as all teachers, students, officials and employees want a fair environment at DU.
