Thrust on forging social movement against corruption

RANGPUR, Jan 30 (BSS): Anti-corruption activists and government officials at a meeting here today underscored the need for launching local level social movement against corruption involving the common citizens to prevent corruption.
They came up with the opinion at the meeting styled "Anti-corruption Social Movement at Local Level: Prospect and Challenges" organised by Rangpur unit of 'Sochetan Nagorik Committee (SNC)' at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city.
Presided over by Rangpur unit President of SNC Mosfeka Razzaque, government officials, representatives of the civil society, different NGOs, anti-corruption and human rights organisations and local elite participated in the event.
Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Muhammad Wahiduzzaman attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Dr Iftekharuzzaman delivered the keynote speech as the main discussant.
Iftekharuzzaman said political will, bringing corrupts under justice as per rule of law and enhancing effectiveness of the national institutions involved with ensuring national integrity management are the prerequisites to speed up social movement against corruption.
Taking part in the open discussion, the speakers put emphasis on enhancing awareness of both the service providers as well as service recipients to build a corruption free society.
