Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has hailed the move of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to launch probes into the graft allegations of unusual wealth accumulations by seven ministers and parliamentarians.
Local chapter of the Berlin-based Transparency International also urged the Commission to take necessary measures to bring the politicians against whom the allegations of acquiring unusual wealth were disclosed in the media under the ACC's investigation process.
The TIB also demanded immediate cancellation of section 32 (2) and section 32A of the Anti Corruption Commission (Amendment) Bill 2013, which was passed in the last half of the 9th parliament. TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman in a statement issued Monday said it is a matter of optimism that the ACC has recently taken a move of launching probes against former ministers and parliamentarians on allegations of amassing massive wealth.
"But the Commission needs to show their professionalism beyond all fears and influence. So, the ACC move should spread not just within the seven and cover the people whose wealth status increases unusually," he said.
Talking about section 32 (2) and section 32A of the ACC (Amendment) Bill 2013, he said the newly-amended ACC bill has incorporated the provision that makes it mandatory for the ACC to take prior government approval to initiate any graft case against any public servant.
