Tofail expects BCL to lead DUCSU

Awami League (AL) leader Tofail Ahmed on Saturday expressed his optimism that Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) would lead the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) winning the March 11 polls, reports BSS.
"I believe Chhatra League will lead DUCSU as they are now united. They led the 1969 mass upsurge and all democratic movements of the country", said Tofail, also a former DUCSU Vice-President.
He came up with the remarks while speaking at a rally organised by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) marking its 71th founding anniversary on Dhaka University (DU) campus.
While speaking to the leaders and activists of BCL, the country's oldest students' body, Tofail Ahmed said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman sowed the seed of independence through the establishment of BCL.
"Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib dreamt of an independent and poverty-free Bangladesh. Bangabandhu established a sovereign Bangladesh and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will root out poverty from the soil" he also said.
The BCL, formerly East Pakistan Student League, was formed in January 4, 1948 under the leadership of Bangabandhu, then student leader and a law student of DU. BCL contributed a lot to 1952 Language Movement, 1959 Mass Upsurge, 1971 Liberation War, and 1990 Anti-Autocracy Movement.
