State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said Friday the administration would not sit idle, if BNP tries to cause damage to people's life and property in the name of movement, reports BSS.
"There will be no benefit of movement. The people want peace, not destruction," he said speaking at a discussion on National Mourning Day in the city.
Deshratno Parishad organised the discussion at the National Press Club with its President Chittaranjan Das in the chair. Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam and Dhaka City Awami League (AL) Organising Secretary Shahe Alam Murad addressed the meeting, among others.
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the government would take tough steps, if BNP resorts to arson attacks to burn buses and kill people in the name of movement like that before January 5 polls.
He said the entire nation will observe August as the month of mourning. But BNP is talking about movement in this month, he added.
The state minister said the government has no objection, if the BNP wages a movement following the norms. But it would be tackled strongly, if they try to create anarchy in the name of movement, he cautioned.
Quamrul Islam advised the BNP leaders to organise the party instead of calling for a movement.
He also dismissed possibility of any dialogue with the BNP.
Meanwhile, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan at a function in Maradipur on the day raised a question whether or not BNP wants to kill police, BGB personnel, bus drivers and common people in the name of new movement in Dhaka.
If this is the case, the people and the government would jointly resist that, he added.
The minister was speaking as chief guest at the triennial conference of 'Anubhab Bahumukhi Samobaya Samity' at Madaripur Lakerpar Swadhinata Angan.
