Train derails in Rajshahi due to sabotage: 2 held

RAJSHAHI, Feb 14 (UNB/bdnews24.com): Train services of Rajshahi with Chapainawabganj were cut off as a train derailed after miscreants removed fishplates from the railway track at Latitnagar station in Godagari uapzila here early Saturday.
Abdul Karim, superintendent of Rajshahi station, said two compartments of an Ishwardi-bound train from Rohanpur in
Chapainawabganj veered off the track around 12 am, halting train movement between Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj for several hours.
The engine and four compartments of the train derailed.
The incident took place as miscreants removed fishplates from the track during the ongoing nonstop transport blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
However, no one was hurt during the incident.
A relief train from Ishwardi rushed to the spot for salvage operation, the superintendent added.
Mukhlesur Rahman, duty officer of GRP thana, confirmed the incident.
Godagari Model Police Station OC SM Abu Forhad Hossain said train services resumed around 2:30pm. The nine-hour rescue operations started at 5.00am.
Nabinagar Upazila's local Jamaat leader Hajrat Ali and Ilias Ali were arrested over the incident.
