Transparency will be ensured at all stages of referendum, election: CEC


Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Sunday said that transparency at all stages of the upcoming referendum and the 13th national parliamentary elections would be ensured.
For this, the Election Commission (EC) has made all-out preparations.
He said this at a briefing joined by the heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of UN agencies in Bangladesh and senior government officials concerned. The EC hosted the briefing at a city hotel to apprise them about the overall preparations for the elections, a press release said. The CEC also said the upcoming referendum and national elections are being considered as important milestones in strengthening democratic solidarity and public trust in state institutions.
Highlighting the preparations of the Commission, the CEC said the electoral preparations have been completed through an integrated and multi-dimensional approach, which includes legal reforms, institutional preparations, consultations with stakeholders and effective planning. Regarding the voter list update, the CEC said that about 4.5 million new voters have been registered through the voter list update process nationwide, of which about 2.665 million are women voters.
Currently, the total number of registered voters is more than 127.6 million.
Regarding postal voting, the CEC said about 0.8 million expatriate voters have registered with the process.
The CEC said that all election materials are currently ready, as well as the ballot paper printing process is going on. In addition, legal and administrative measures have been taken to resolve election-related complaints and disputes.
