A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy amid ongoing corruption investigations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain issued the order on November 6, following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Neyamul Ahsan Gazi applied for the ban on Ivy's departure, confirmed a court source to reporters on Wednesday.
The application states that an investigation is underway into allegations of abuse of power, misappropriation of funds through irregularities, and acquisition of illicit assets by the accused and their family members.
The petitioner warned that the accused may attempt to flee the country, making a travel ban essential to ensure a fair investigation.
According to the ACC petition, an investigation is underway against Ms. Ivy, who is said to have amassed wealth herself and family members through abusing her power, corruption, and irregularities.
