Trial of war criminals must be held: AK Khandaker

Planning Minister and Sector Commanders' Forum Chairman AK Khandaker Saturday reiterated his government's firm commitment to try the perpetrators of the crimes against humanity to meet the people's demand, reports BSS.
"The people, especially the new generation lent their total support to try the war criminals, who committed crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971," he said while addressing as the chief guest a rally of students of Barisal division at central auditorium of Patuakhali Science and Engineering University (PSEU) in Patuakhali.
The minister urged the new generation to raise their voices against the anti-liberation forces, now out to hatch conspiracy to destabilize the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad ASM Firoz said Freedom Fighters like Ziaur Rahman dishonored the country's national flag by making anti-liberation people ministers and lawmakers.
State Minister for Water Resources Mahbubur Rahman Talukder said Khaleda Zia dishonored the people of the country by demanding release of war criminals.
Presided over by Vice-Chancellor of PSEU Prof Dr Syed Shakhawat Hossain, among others, the meeting was addressed by Mayor of Barisal Advocate Shawkat Hossain Hiron, Advocate Talukder Mohammad Yunus, MP, Sector Commanders' Forum Secretary Lt Gen (retd) Harun-ur-Rashid, Organising Secretary M Hamid and Cultural Secretary Harun Habib.
