Brushing aside all speculations, Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said Thursday that the trial of the war criminals was a must in the soil of Bangladesh and it would start soon.
"The people have given us their clear mandate to try the war criminals who killed millions of people during the War of Liberation," he said at an overcrowded press conference aired live on televisions and radio channels from the party's Dhandmondi office, reports BSS.
Mr Islam, also the LGRD and Cooperatives minister, said a resolution to try the war criminals has unanimously been adopted in the Jatiya Sangsad, while the government has allocated Tk 100 million to meet necessary expenses for the trial.
The minister said today's historic verdict on Bangabandhu murder trial has established the rule of law above injustice and misrule.
The present government would facilitate fair trials for all other killings in the country, he added.
