AGARTALA (Tripura), Jan 11 :Governor of Tripura Dr D Y Patil and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar separately met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the State Guest House of Tripura on Wednesday evening, reports UNB.
After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters.
He said during the meeting, Sheikh Hasina said her visit to India (Jan 2010) and Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to Bangladesh (Sept, 2011) ushered in a new era of cooperation in security, border management, land boundary, water resource management, power, connectivity and trade.
She underscored the need for early ratification of the land boundary agreement, and its protocol saying that Bangladesh attaches great importance to its relations with India.
Hasina expressed happiness over the Indian decision to allow duty-free access to 480 products from Bangladesh and urged for removing tariff and non-tariff barriers to Bangladeshi goods to reduce huge trade gap.
She said there had been no desired development in the country in the last 40 years in absence of uninterrupted democratic government. But her government is now working relentlessly to give democracy a strong footing and strengthen democratic institutions in the country, Hasina said.
The Prime Minister recalled with deep gratitude the cooperation and assistance of the people of Tripura in 1971.
They had given shelters to millions of Bangladeshi refugees and provided them with foods and clothes, she mentioned.
Hasina also thanked the people of Tripura for erecting the statue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and developing Muktijoddha Park there.
Both the Governor and the Chief Minister praised the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and hoped that the relations between the two countries, especially with Tripura, would further be strengthened in the days to come.
Earlier, Indian Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal met the Prime Minister at the State Guest House.
